Information for Dentists trained outside of the U.S. and Canada

There are currently no positions available for dentists trained outside the U.S. and Canada. Please feel free to check back after the beginning of February, 2025 for more information. Make sure to have the following items prepared for when the application opens again next cycle

Application Requirements

  • TOEFL IBT (taken within the last 2 years)*
  • ECE or WES report (Trust Forte is preferred and ECE & WES are accepted for transcript verification)
  • 3 Clinical Recommendation Letters
    • At least 1 letter from a dentist who has observed your clinical ability within the last 6 months
    • Other recommendation letters must be from restorative/operative faculty from your dental school. Please make sure they attest to your clinical skill in general dentistry
  • Dean's Letter
  • CV 

Dental Licensure or Permit Requirements

  • Applicants must be dental license eligible in those states listed above that require a permit or restricted (temporary) dental license to practice only within the scope of the program and at the assigned clinical training site.

*TOEFL IBT requirements
TOEFL scores must meet the following minimum requirements for each category (for all states except Massachusetts). Please note that we can only accept the TOEFL IBT (we will not accept the TOEFL Essential)

  • Overall Score- 75
  • Reading- 15
  • Listening- 15
  • Speaking- 17
  • Writing- 17


* Massachusetts TOEFL requirements are different than other states. Their minimum requirements are

  • Overall Score- 90
  • Reading- 21
  • Listening- 17
  • Speaking- 24
  • Writing- 17

Immigration Sponsorship:

Program participants must provide documentation of identity and U.S. work authorization valid for the duration of the program, as per Form I-9 requirements; failure to provide documentation of U.S. work authorization for the duration of the program will result in termination from the program and the participant will not be issued a completion certificate. Persons with an Employment Authorization Document (EAD card), including F-1 students in a period of Optional Practical Training (OPT), are advised to ensure they can independently secure U.S. work authorization valid for the duration of their program. 

H-1B sponsorship is not provided for this program. Due to the provision in NAFTA for TN status for the occupation of Dentist, TN sponsorship is provided for eligible program participants.
