Located on the northern border of Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital, Maryland houses more than 350 biotechnology firms, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Maryland is also a hub for the nation’s health care technology. During their free time, residents can enjoy Maryland’s seafood, beaches, and numerous historic sites. NYU Langone Dental Medicine’s health partner sites are located as far north as Randallstown and as far south as Princess Anne. On Maryland’s Eastern Shore, dental disease and lack of access to oral health care is one of the most critical health care issues. Children living in the region have more dental disease than in any other area of the state. In 2019, 9.0% of people in Maryland had incomes below the poverty line ($25,596 for a family of four) and 12.6% of people under age 65 and below 138% of the poverty line did not have health insurance. NYU Langone Dental Medicine and its health centers partner help to ensure equitable and affordable dental care while enhancing and honing the skills of postdoctoral dental practitioners.
