NYU Langone Dental Medicine's health care affiliates in upstate New York are located in the capitol of Albany and nearby communities of Schenectady and Troy. Nestled between the glorious Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, upstate New York is the hub for resident sites in the lovely northern Hudson River Valley with many historical sites and cultural activities ranging from the acclaimed architecture of the Schenectady City Hall and Union College to the fun and tradition of Saratoga Race Course. Covering more than six million square miles and dotted with spectacular lakes, the Adirondacks area, (named after the Algonquin Indians), now hosts recreational activities for every season of the year. Summer activities include hiking; boating; fishing for pike, trout, and walleye; and winter sports such as skiing, tobogganing, and snowshoeing. The city of Albany, the New York State capital, is located approximately 140 miles north of New York City on the west bank of the Hudson River. Albany is less wealthy when measured by household income. Albany's median household income in 2019* was $45,825, compared to county median of $66,252, and $68,486 statewide. The City also has relatively high levels of poverty. 17.7 percent of children live in poverty, which is only slightly less than the county median of 18.3 percent, and a statewide rate of 20.7 percent. NYU Langone Dental Medicine and its health center partners help to ensure that residents of upstate New York have equitable and affordable dental care while enhancing and honing the skills of postdoctoral dental practitioners.
