Hawaii - Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center - AEGD

Founded in 1993, Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center provides comprehensive healthcare for the entire Maui community. Mālama’s 12 operatory dental clinic includes updated equipment such as a CBCT machine and Trios scanner. The clinic provides services across all disciplines of dentistry. Following the clinic’s core values of kūpa'a (steadfast), ho'omau (continuity), po'okela (excellence), and 'imi 'ike (innovation), Mālama strives to provide patient-centered care that engages with culture and history.

Mālama’s integrated primary care services emphasize a trauma-informed approach. The clinic recognizes the presence of past and present trauma in the lives of all people and commits itself to the healing of trauma, building agency and growing resilience. Mālama values curiosity and humility as the clinic provides respectful, empathetic care to the various communities on Maui.

In response to the unique geographic and socioeconomic barriers experienced by many members of the Maui community, care at Mālama is affordable and comprehensive, and dental residents provide advanced treatments such as molar root canals, surgical extractions, and FPDs. Many patients at Mālama have complex medical conditions such as head and neck cancer, diabetes, or end stage organ failure, allowing dental residents to gain experience managing and coordinating patients with medical comorbidities. Overall, Mālama I Ke Ola dental residents receive robust post-graduate training that builds on their dental school experiences to prepare them for a high level of clinical practice.
