Arizona - El Rio Community Health Center - PEDS

The El Rio staff serves over 900 people per day, 76% of those served live at or below the federal poverty level. Dedicated to serving all populations, including the under-represented and uninsured, El Rio has become one of the largest non-profit, community health centers in the United States. Dr. Erin Guttormson, Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry PGY2 resident, shares her residency experience.

Prior to joining NYU Langone Dental Medicine Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program at the Tucson, AZ site, I was already a proud member of the NYU Langone Dental family as an AEGD faculty member and had been practicing general dentistry for 6 years.  The attending faculty at the Tucson site have been fantastic through my whole transition as I settled into the role of a resident again.  My time in Tucson has been invaluable to my training as a Pediatric Dentist, and the program is very well-rounded and patient centered.  The program provides a great mix of patient care and didactic training to prepare you. To top it all off, the health center where we work is in an extremely high need area of the country and we are able to provide a valuable service to our patients that may otherwise not be able to seek world-class specialty dental care.  The Tucson site has a very strong sedation program where you will gain a lot of experience with both General Anesthesia and Oral Conscious Sedation. I would highly recommend the NYU Langone Dental Medicine Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program in Tucson, AZ.
