Become an expert in Pediatric Dentistry. San Ysidro Health Center (SYHC)’s San Diego Children’s Dental Clinic (SDCDC), located at Rady Children’s Hospital, is one of the few pediatric dental clinics in Southern California that provides comprehensive dental care services not only for children who are healthy but also for those who are medically compromised, have special needs and/or are behaviorally challenged. Children between the ages of 0 and 14 are eligible to be seen at this clinic.  SDCDC also works closely with Rady Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology department to deliver dental treatment to those patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and/or are in need of organ/bone marrow transplantation. Residents receive their pediatric dental clinical training while serving the community by caring for patients in community health centers in collaboration with medical staff. Rady Children’s Hospital provides hospital and medical rotations required for specialty training. The program has a strong emphasis on caring for special-needs and medically-compromised pediatric patients. Residents work very closely with all specialty services at RCH (e.g. Hematology/Oncology, Transplant team, Craniofacial team) to coordinate care for patients. The residents also benefit from the broad reach of SYHC’s multiple dental clinics throughout Southern San Diego County to provide additional clinical experience and serve the community. Additional rigorous onsite didactics from staff pediatric dentists and specialists (Endo, Ortho, OMFS, Dentist Anesthesiologist) supplement the existing video teleconferencing lecture series offered through NYU Langone Dental Medicine.
