California - San Ysidro Health Center - PEDS

Thank you for your interest in the NYU Langone Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry Program-San Diego site. This site offers a unique pediatric dental residency training program.  The training sites are located in Chula Vista (CVMP), El Cajon (EC), and Rady Children’s Hospital (RCH). CVMP and EC are owned and operated by San Ysidro Health (SYH), a large, federally qualified health center (FQHC).  Residents receive their pediatric dental clinical training while serving the community by caring for patients in community health centers and San Diego County's only children's hospital in collaboration with medical staff.  RCH provides hospital and medical rotations required for specialty training with additional rotations in clinics for Down Syndrome, Craniofacial conditions, Cleft Lip and Palate, and Nasoalveolar Molding.  The program cares for both healthy and special-needs/ medically-compromised pediatric patients.  Residents work very closely with all specialty services at RCH (e.g. Hematology/Oncology, Craniofacial Team, Cardiology, Neurology, Anesthesia) to coordinate care for patients.  The residents also benefit from the broad reach of SYH’s multiple dental clinics throughout San Diego County to provide additional well-child clinical experience and serve the community.  Additional rigorous onsite didactics from staff pediatric dentists and specialists (Endo, Ortho, OMFS) supplement the existing video teleconferencing lecture series offered through NYU Langone Dental Medicine.
